My Week Featuring Brighton
Apologies oh public, I have been a bit remiss on updating my blog. The house went up for sale this week so my DIY skills came into action. Notwithstanding I went down to Sussex on Tuesday to see The Mighty Gas play and defeat Brighton in The Carling Cup. Good game despite it pissing down and there being no roof on the away end. Bizarely I was interviewed by HTV at half time as I left the fish and chip queue. I doubt they will show it (found out later they did, somebody recognised me!).
Wednesday was a day of more DIY and then a trip to Benton Hall where I did two laps of the par 3 course with varied success.
Thursday, encouraged by my skills on Wednesday, I played two rounds of the Braxted Park 9 hole course and scored a cool 131! Having last played a proper course in 1971 I thought this wasn't too bad.
Today I improved on this and scored 128 however the groundsmen increasingly pissed me off cutting grass, replacing holes and generally intimidating me as I struggled with a very bad patch of form from holes 10 to 13. But I had a glove at last and that helped me through. Tonight I have been impressed by Amir Khan and equally by my rather nice attempt at a Spanish omelette. Now read on...

The UK public expected Paula Radcliffe to win the Olympic marathon. The UK public have not run a marathon in the conditions Paula was expected to excel in. My first London Marathon was in 1996 and the temperatue was in the mid-20s at the finish. I thought I was perfectly prepared after a winter of running mile after mile, but when the reality of an excessively warm April day hit I was ready to give up 7 miles into the race. I will cast no stones as I was found wanting and Paula was obviously up for it.
4x4 Brain Cells

The dangers of Witham Station car park. I got back the other night to discover this boneheaded piece of parking (AD03 HZM you know who you are!) I contacted the dealer who sold this fine vehicle to enquire if it had an electronic reverse parking aid fitted and he answered in the affirmative!

I may not have any friends but here are some of my colleagues at Silverstone last Sunday. I think it's safe to say I am the bestdressed person in my company!

The mighty Gas win 1-0 at Darlington with future Chelsea signing Junior Agogo scoring after 77 minutes. For a minute we were top of the league on alphabetical order over Macclesfield (soon to be renamed Aardvark Athletic) until the appropriately named Scunthorpe snuck another one in. But never mind, at least Scunthorpe beat Lincoln City who are the one team in this league I dislike from having seen their awful supporters. I went there in 2002 and whenever they scored the fans didn't celebrate the goal but rather saw it as an opportunity to bait the away fans.
Sinclair C5 Enthusiasts
Great to see the old C5 is being kept alive still. I remember hearing about a hotel on an island with a perimeter road of 20 miles buying a fleet of them as this would be within their battery range. Unfortunately they got repeated calls from guests with flat batteries on the other side of the island. C'e5t la vie!

At long last it is the beginning of my week off. I really fancied a leisurely morning tomorrow. Next thing the BBC are telling me I will have to be up at the crack of dawn for the rowing finals!

Far From The Madding Crowd
At long last, one of the greatest films ever made Far From The Madding Crowd comes to DVD. If only Julie Christie had appreciated my 10 year old charms when I first saw it.
